In considering types of glacial landscape, we should also consider how glaciers affect areas far beyond the edge of the ice, for example through the deposition of sediment carried into the oceans by icebergs or by rivers.

Deep-sea cores drilled into sediments on the ocean floors show that glacial sediment can travel far from its source.
